Mr Kennedy Tonjo-West, Senior Special Assistant to Bayelsa Gov. Seriake Dickson  on Niger Delta Youth Matters, says the intervention of the governor in the Ijaw youths leadership crisis led to a peaceful resolution.

Two factions of Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) emerged from separate elections conducted in Burutu, Delta, and Okrika in Rivers.

Both claimed the leadership of the organisation.

Tonjo-West told newsmen on Thursday in Yenagoa that the governor inaugurated an Ijaw eminent persons group that resolved the crisis.

He said that the intervention was a timely and proactive measure that enhanced the peace process in the Niger-Delta region.

Tonjo-West said that the decision of Ijaw leaders to recognise and inaugurate the Oweilami Pere-Otubo-led faction of the IYC was objective and complied with the constitution of the IYC.
The official said that the newly inaugurated executive was widely accepted by the Ijaw people.

He appealed to the Eric Omare-led faction to embrace peace and work with the IYC leadership for advancement.
The governor aide urged the Oweilami-led administration to work closely with other ethnic groups in Niger Delta to advance the common good of the region.

He urged sensitisation of Ijaw youths to the need for peaceful co-existence among the various ethnic groups in the region.
