The National President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Honour Sirawoo, has donated a giant trophy to sports Journalist in Cross River State and South-South Zone.
 
Sirawoo said the trophy was in honour of the late National Vice President, South-South, Comrade Eddy Bekom, who died in active service last year.
 
Donating the trophy to Cross River State SWAN on Tuesday, Sirawoo,  was represented by a member of the Editorial Board of Glimer Newspaper and a lecturer at the University of Port-Harcourt, Asuquo Ekanem said the trophy was in fulfillment of a promise made by the National President to immortalise the late sports journalist.
 
He said that Bekom left a legacy and contributed to sports development in the Nigeria.
 
” Eddy Bekom contributed significantly to sports development in Cross River State and Nigeria and so there must be something to remember him for his efforts and contribution,” Sirawwoo said.
 
Receiving the giant trophy on behalf of SWAN in Cross River, the state Chairman, Albert Andinam, thanked the National President for redeeming his pledge of donating the trophy to immortalise the deceased for his contributions to sports development.
 
According to the SWAN Chairman, the trophy is in safe hands and will be competed for by sports writers on a date yet to be announced within the Zone.
 
Andinam appealed to the Cross River State government to urgently complete all ongoing projects at the U.J.Esuene stadium to pave way for the National Sports Festival expected to be hosted by the state in 2018.
 
Acting National Vice President,  SWAN, South-South Zone, Charles Eniang, commended the vision of the National President for donating the trophy because of Eddy contributions to SWAN.
