President Muhammadu Buhari has been commended for the re-appointment of Ambassador Joshua Okpo as Rector of the prestigious Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron, Akwa Ibom for second term of four years.
The members and executives of the Sportswriters Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Cross River State Chapter, made the commendation in a statement on Monday in Calabar.
They stated that the MAN Rector, a former Chairman of SWAN in the state, is a result-oriented administrator as demonstrated by his record of achievements at MAN and pre-MAN years.
According to the sportswriters the decision of the Federal Government to give Okpo a second tenure at MAN is not only well-informed but appropriate given his pedigree.They urged Okpo to work tirelessly to upgrade facilities; sustain the institution’s corporate social responsibility; academic excellence; and ensure that MAN is upgraded to a Degree-awarding institution as soon as possible.
SWAN also commended the MAN’s management resolve to collaborate with maritime institutions in Sweden, United Kingdom, South Africa and Turkey, to explore best ways to a train its cadets for global competitiveness.They stated that the re-appointment of Okpo has further demonstrated President Buhari’s determination to reward excellence and accommodate diverse interests in appointment in his administration.
The statement was endorsed by the Vice Chairman, Mr Albert Andinam on behalf of the Chairman, Mr Eddie Bekom, and Secretary, Mr Dianabasi Effiong.
