Nigeria has the capacity to earn $16billion (about N3.2trillion) annually from the export of cassava but all the biggest economy in Africa is able to garner at the moment from the export of the commodity is $1.0million annually (about N200million).
The submission made by a report released by the office of the Special Envoy on Gender (SEOG) and the Department for Agriculture and Agro-industry (OSAN) of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The report revealed that Nigeria represents Africa’s top producer of cassava with 53 million tons in 2013 – about 20 percent of global cassava (approximately USD 16 billion in value); however, the country only exported USD 1 million worth of the staple.
