The Wuse II Chief Magistrate Court, Abuja, presided over by Mr Shuaibu Usman, has ordered the Department of State Security (DSS) to ensure that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the Leader/Director of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and Radio Biafra, is brought to his court next week Monday, November 23. The Chief Magistrate gave the order at the resumed hearing of the case filed against Kanu by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Chief Magistrate Usman had expected Mazi Kanu to appear before his court in keeping with his earlier order but the DSS failed to bring him forward. The DSS signified its intention to file some applications likely to amend the charges against the Radio Biafra boss but Chief Magistrate Usman disallowed amendment and ruled that no further proceedings should continue on the matter unless Kanu is brought to the court.

The court had on October 19, 2015 granted Kanu client bail in the most stringent conditions but DSS refused to release him after meeting the conditions and also refused to bring him before the court despite several orders to that effect. The refusal to obey the court’s orders have led to protests across the South-East and South-South areas of Nigeria, as well as in some other countries.
