Mr Patrick Ugbe, the Chief Executive Officer of Hit FM, the first privately-owned 24-hour radio station in Calabar, says the new station will become Africa’s premier lifestyle broadcast outfit. Ugbe, a former Commissioner of Youths and Sports Development, gave the assurance in an interview in Calabar.
According to Ugbe the new station which has already started a test transmission in Calabar will also deliver what he calls the best sound, promote music, sports and entertainment news.
He said the station, currently transmitting on 95.5 FM (Frequency Modulation) channel in Calabar would also promote weather information in its broadcast.
“Hit FM, is conceptualised “to deliver the best sound in the world” and become “Africa’s premier lifestyle” station.
“The core target of the broadcast station which is to create content across all age group, is from 15 to 45 years. Hit FM plans to run a 24-hour operation focusing on music and talk, broadcasting a mix of entertainment news; topical news; sports, traffic; and weather information. Our vision is to create top quality lifestyle auditory entertainment that covers key areas that people connect with
“We will create an audience focused radio platform that draws in every listener through novel and unique radio programming and broadcast design. With very modern digital broadcast equipment, coupled with young and dynamic On Air Personalities, the station hopes to revolutionise radio broadcast in Cross River and its environs. Hit FM has its pay off line, `best music, Best Talk’ and can be received on the FM frequency of 95.5,” Ugbe said.

Our correspondent reports that Mr Patrick Ugbe, former Commissioner for Information in Cross River, who funds the new broadcast outfit, doubles as the station’s Chief Executive Officer.

Ugbe also unveiled the new broadcast station in an interactive session with journalists in Calabar on Wednesday.

Ugbe, the immediate past Commissioner for Sports and Youths Development, said the Hit FM, is conceptualised to “deliver the best sound in the world’’ and become “Africa’s premier lifestyle’’ station.
