The Cross River State Commissioner for Special Projects and Duties, Mr. Victor Adugba Agwu, has said that the Monorail project of the State Government will be commissioned on or before February 14, 2016.
Agwu who stated this while briefing Newsmen recently in his office disclosed that the commissioning which had earlier been slated for December 20, 2015, could not take place due to problems of power encountered on the project site.
He said that the problem had been resolved and that the Monorail which is about ninety 98 per cent completed, was almost set for commissioning.
The Commissioner disclosed that part of the contract with the company responsible for the installation is to ensure that staff are properly trained for the project’s sustainability.
He said that after commissioning, the company will be on ground for up to two years to ensure that designated Cross Riverians have been adequately trained “to carry on the running and management of the Monorail thereafter”.
Agwu said that the original design of the Monorail is a twelve (12) km rail which will span from the Margaret Ekpo International Airport to TINAPA Resort, which he said is just the first phase of the project.
He said that the Monorail is not an “elitist project” and assured the people of Cross River that the project would add value to the tourism drive of the State by rejuvenating the activities of the Tinapa Resort to boost the socio-economic profile of the State.
