The Communication Arts Department in the University of Uyo is shopping for about N70 million to build a befitting “Communications House” at the Town Campus of the Institution.

This was disclosed by the Head of Department, Prof. Nkereuwem Udoakah, in an interview with our correspondent in Calabar.

He said that no less than N70 million was estimated by the department to expand its current office space and classrooms from its
present capacity.

He said that the department was convinced that if the proposal is met it would foster a conducive learning environment for students and teachers in the department.

Udoakah also told our correspondent that the department intended to raise the funds for the project from its alumni and all those who passed through it.

According to him contributions from concerned members of the public and institutions that hire media professionals and communication arts graduates will also be appreciated.

“We expect our old students wherever they are to contribute to uplift the department in their Alma Mata.

“We can name the classroom blocks after the highest donors. Of course, we can name the building after any alumnus who takes over the construction of the entire project,” Udoakah said.

According to him the project launch is slated for March 25 this year in Uyo

The University of Uyo was established Oct. 1, 1991 by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It inherited students, staff, academic programmes and the entire facilities of the erstwhile University of Cross River State also established by Cross River Government in 1983
