The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) yesterday, asked Nigeria’s Federal Government to quickly conduct a referendum in the South-East geopolitical zone as a prelude to the region’s secession or face the total shutdown of socio-economic activities in the region and beyond.

According to the Nigerian newspaper, the Vanguard, the pro-Biafra group vowed to unleash its potent force towards making Nigeria ungovernable if its stance was not heeded by the Federal Government.

The paper reports that the MASSOB Director of Information, Samuel Edeson in a statement to newsmen in Enugu yesterday, said: “We shall use everything at our disposal to fight Nigeria government especially through civil disobedience. We are going to call for sit at home in all Biafra land and Lagos. MASSOB will drag former President Olusegun Obasanjo to the International Crime Court, ICC, for all the atrocities he committed against Biafra since 1970.

“We are asking for justice for the massacre of Odi people, the Tiv, Jukum and the massacre of MASSOB members in Aba, Okigwe and Onitsha including the killing of six Igbo traders in Apo, Abuja. MASSOB will be taking her campaign to United States of America, United Kingdom, France and China embassies in Abuja. MASSOB therefore calls on all people of old eastern region, Delta, parts of Kogi and parts of Benue State to support the referendum that would soon take place in Biafraland. Our freedom is non-negotiable.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian online newspaper, News Express has reported that a Cameroonian separatist group has thrown its weight behind the agitation for Biafra in neighbouring Nigeria.

The group, which goes by the name Rufasca and is working for the independence of the people of Southern Cameroon, has reportedly entered into an alliance with the Biafra Nations Youth League (BNYL), one of the groups currently campaigning for the resuscitation of Biafra Republic, which existed from 1967 to 1970 before surrendering to superior federal forces.

“Rufasca is seeking to collaborate with us in the best interest of the people of Southern Cameroon otherwise known as Ambazonia,” BNYL National President, Comrade Prince Chimezie Obuka, told News Express.

“Rufasca has not only allied with us, but they are now part of BNYL representing the interest of Ambazonia. With them in the movement and the BNYL at large, the Nigerian Government will find it difficult denying Biafra access to the sea,” Obuka said.

He disclosed that a Rufasca delegation will attend the BNYL Congress scheduled to hold on February 27, 2016 in Ikom, Cross River State.

Comrade Obuka welcomed the alliance with Rufasca, explaining that the people of Southern Cameroon and Eastern Nigeria share a common history.

“The name Ambazonia is gotten from the Ambas bay in the Bight of Biafra. Southern Cameroon occupies the largest portion of the Bight of Biafra. And they equally want to pull out from Cameroon. We have shared common history as they were administered alongside Eastern Nigeria under the NCNC led by Nnamdi Azikiwe. Our last leakage is Biafra’s coastal line. With the help of Rufasca, there is hope for the people of Bakassi,” the BNYL National President stated.
