Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano yesterday flagged off the Delfarm Anambra Songhai Farm Project at Igbariam in Anambra East Council Area. The project designed for full value-Chain Agricultural Production and Processing as well as for Agricultural Technical Services us worth about 4.5 billion naira of investment in its first phase.

With the headquarters at Igbariam, the mega project is expected to take a total of 2000 Hectares of Land; at least 500 each from the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

According to Gov Obiano, his administration having identified Agriculture as the way to go especially in view of the dwindling fortunes of the nation’s oil, “has developed a pragmatic plan that has ensured coordinated efforts in the State’s Agricultural Sector.”

Speaking further, the Governor said that the State Government’s numerous engagements with Private Investors are “yielding ample job and wealth creating opportunities.” Obiano called on the youths in the State to register with the State’s Ministry of Agriculture and be trained on commercial Agricultural ventures.

Commending the investor for deciding to invest in the State, Governor Obiano urged other hi-networth Ndi Anambra to bring their wealth into the State, assuring them of the enabling environment.

In his address, the Chairman of Delfarms Projects Limited, Dr Emmanuel Egbogah, said that the project when fully on stream, will be strategic to the realization of the present administration’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda which aims to make the State self sufficient in Agricultural products; assuring that they are fully committed to the realization that feat.

The Director, Songhai Regional Centre, Professor Godfrey Nzeamujo said the project is in line with the newly formulated Sustainable Development Goals as it concerns Agriculture and commended the State Government for buying into the initiative by leveraging on the improved technology which the Farm is bringing.

Earlier, the Chairman of ANSIPPA and Traditional Ruler of Umuoji, Igwe Cyril Enweze while explaining the details of the Memorandum of Understanding that brought about the project, said the project has the prospects of job and wealth creation, increased food production, transfer of expertise and technical support to the Local farmers among others.

In a vote of thanks, the Member representing Anambra East Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Mr Emenaka thanked the Governor for being practical and pragmatic in his Agricultural Agenda.

Official flag-off of the project and ceremonial planting of trees by the Governor formed the highlights of the event.
