Rep. Orok Duke Chairman Cross River Sports Commission, has called on relevant stakeholders to make Table Tennis popular, universal and inclusive.

He made the call in an interview with our Wednesday on the side-line of the “World Table Tennis for All Day’’ celebration by fans and stakeholders in Calabar

Duke, formerly member, House of Representatives, also urged Nigerians to play the game irrespective of age, gender, social status, culture and physical ability.

Duke, currently Zonal Vice Chairman, Table Tennis Federation, South-South also urged that the sport should be used as a vehicle for social change, social inclusion and cohesion.

He said the day aimed at using table tennis to prevent youths from engaging in anti-social activities including gangterism

Our correspondent reports that the day was jointly set by the United Nations and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the International Day of Sport for development and peace.

It is also a day set aside to celebrate the contributions and achievements of table tennis globally.

This year’s celebration marked the second anniversary of the “World Table Tennis for All Day.’’. The first edition was in 2015.
