In line with the Transformation Agenda of Mr. President, the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has commissioned 149 units of solar powered street light at the University of Benin, Edo State.

Speaking during the commissioning of the light project, the NDDC acting Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Christy Atako, said the Commission was set up as an interventionist agency to facilitate development in the Niger Delta by providing infrastructure and building human capacity in the region.
Dr. Atako, therefore, called on the university authority and students whom she described as peace loving to guard and protect the solar powered street light jealously because of its importance. “This project is intended to illuminate the university premises and its surrounding environment and would help a lot in the security of this university,” she said.
The acting Managing Director/CEO also called on the university authority to be sensitive to the needs of their students because as leaders of tomorrow they need a conducive environment to learn.
Responding, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor John Okhuoya, expressed deep appreciation for the various projects NDDC has embarked upon in the university.
“We are extremely grateful for what the NDDC has done and is doing for our university,” Prof Okhuoya said.
The Speaker of the University of Benin Students Parliament, Governor Ameh, thanked NDDC and promised that students and security personnel would ensure that the project was not vandalized.
