The Coalition PDP USA chapter hosted The President’s  Adviser on Ethics and Values, Dr. Sarah Nnadzwa Jibril, to a private dinner in the state of Maryland, USA, on September 9, 2013. Dr. Jibril gave extensive remarks about the President’s efforts at eradicating corruption in Nigeria.  In her speech, Dr. Jibril stated that high ethical values prevent corruption in any environment, and that her office is at the vanguard of leading ethical change for the better in Nigeria to replace the current tendency to  conscienceless impunity. She further stated that the anti-corruption campaign of the President is growing stronger, and unequivocally averred that the people committing scams will be brought to justice.

Dr Jibril stated that a country’s development depends a great deal on partnership arrangements between the government and the private sector. There was need for equitable development to improve the country’s economic standing, and she pointed out that “democracy thrives always in an environment that is transparent, and that allows freedom of speech and strong accountability”. The coordinator for Coalition PDP USA Chapter, Chief Olalekan Ogunfowora, and the Director of Planning and Strategy, Miss Arinola Awosika, praised Dr. Jibril’s speech for being educative, informative, constructive and motivating.

The Honorable Minister for Special Duties will dialogue with members of the coalition and other professionals in the Diaspora, on the way forward for the Peoples Democratic Party relative to 2015, in particular, and Nigeria in general.

CoalitionPDP USA is a group of visionary professionals in various careers who have come together to strategize about the progress of the PDP in 2015 and beyond.  The vision of the Coalition is to consolidate the political, social, and economic progress made under the PDP administrations since 1999.

The coalition’s mandate is to help put structures in place in the various states of the federation to help all PDP candidates win elections in 2015.  The competencies of the group are multidimensional and they will be effectively deployed in the Coalition’s quest.

During his visit, the Honorable Minister will also highlight some of the achievements of the President since assuming office.  Some of these accomplishments include reforms in the power sector, culminating in the transfer of generating and distributing functions to the private sector; reforms in agriculture to assure food safety, reduce  expenditure of foreign exchange on food imports, provision of over N300 billion ($2 billion) to Nigerian farmers, and an actionable plan to create over 3.5million jobs in agro allied businesses.

The Aviation Ministry upgraded 22 airports in the country and is currently in the process of building terminals at five major international airports. Liberalized processes have enabled a conducive investment climate such that Nigeria remains a major destination for FDI. In the Communications sector, there was a launch of the NigComSat-IR satellite to complement fiber connectivity, as well as the equipping of over 766 secondary schools with personal computers. Reforms in the education sector included the launch of a 4-year Strategic development Plan, as well as the establishment of over 80 schools for the education of almajiri kids.  The President’s concern for the environment is a major reason the Ministry of Environment was majorly engaged in desertification control measures in the course of which it has raised 6 million seedlings. The Ministry also completed 62 erosion control projects nationwide.

The Ministry of Finance oversaw the lowering of government fiscal deficit from 3.5% of GDP in 2010 to 2.85% in 2012, and recurrent expenditure from 77.18% to 71.48% in 2012. Nigeria has been involved in promoting democratic values in such countries like Mali, Guinea Bissau, and Cote d’Ivoire, to mention but a few.  In Mali, Nigeria was a part of counter insurgency military operations to root out Al Qaida militants who had seized control of half of the country. Nigeria was invited to become a member of the Governing Council of the Community of Democracies, an intergovernmental organization in Poland.

The goal of CoalitionPDP USA is to ensure the electoral success of President Jonathan and other PDP candidates at the polls in 2015, so the progressive trajectory path that the President’s policies and development programs have set Nigeria on would be continued.  CoalitionPDP USA is committed to disseminating to the world, the successes of the Nigerian government under PDP administrations, and to mobilize Nigerians abroad for the PDP.
