Suddenly, radical thoughts are emerging from the North.
The Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, III, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Mohammad Ii, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, Sen.. Shehu Sani, Alhaji Nasri El Rufai are posturing to be different from the likes of Alhaji Ibrahim Coomasi, Prof. Ango Abdullahi among other. The Northern radicals are creating the impression that they are not happy with the Buhari administration of the position that the North has found itself even with the political power that they want to badly.
With Gen. Buhari, they thought they have successfully executed another coup d’tat.
They celebrated the defeat of GEJ with relish if you listened to the likes of Alhaji Aminu Masari.
But they have found out that even if they break up with the rest of Nigeria and sell their Chad basin crude oil, their problems are far more than what can be wiped out by the likes of GEJ or by their Super star from Daura.
They want to try another approach to retain political power and El Rufai appear to be their new arrow head.
Some elites from the south have started seeing presidential material in the Emir of Kano. Four years ago, the North needed a man like Mbuhari who may have been intellectually deficient, but has managed to hoodwink the poor that he is their own.
The Northern elites who were never comfortable with him from the onset are worried about his health and competence, they are worried that having political power without economic development is worth less. They are also seeing a situation where the Voodoo that worked for them in the SW will fail them in 2019.
So if APC does not implode before the next election, the Buhari Magic may be fully stretched if the SW regains consciousness.
For the SE, the failure or success of the exit referendum will determine their future.
The North has rejected the outcome of the National Conference, it has refused to go with the idea of restructuring.
But it will realise that Nigeria problems will not be solved by a million elections. The antics of these neo Northern radicals will not save the north or deliver the region from its present state.
