Unidentified gunmen who abducted six expatriates of Bayelsa coastline have demanded a ransom of N200 million to free the sailors.

Police Public Relations Officer for Bayelsa Command Mr Fidelis Odunna confirmed the development in a telephone chat on Wednesday.

A Russian, three Ukrainian and two Indian sailors were abducted on Sunday when the vessel they were working in was attacked off Bayelsa coastline.

Odunna said that the Police Anti Kidnapping squad was already on the trail of the kidnappers to secure their freedom.

“We have already dispatched our men to track down the kidnappers and contact has been established with them and they are asking for N200 million,” the Police spokesman said.

It will be recalled that Gov. Seriake Dickson on February 15 signed into Law a bill prescribing death penalty for Kidnapping in Bayelsa.
