With assurances coming from all quarters, especially Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki that the maiden Super Four Championship for Nigerian women will be a show piece at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, players and officials say they are also lining behind the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles to qualify for the World Cup after making it through the CHAN qualifiers against Benin Republic.
A statement by Ben Alaiya, Media Director, Super 4, Benin City 2017 indicated that the maiden Super Four comes up between September 11-16 in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
According to the statement the Nigeria Women’s Leagues Chairperson, Aisha Falode said she and all the teams are concerned about the double header between Nigeria and Cameroon, with the games coming up in the first week of September.
“All the coaches, officials and players namely Delta Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels, are rooting for the Super Eagles, as they want them to make it not only to CHAN but to the World Cup in Russia 2018 and do very well.”
She added that the women and the men in football are working in partnership and that any time the national team is playin , the ladies are busy praying for them and the double header against Cameroon will not be an exception.
“Yes, we are preparing for the Super 4 in Benin City with gusto, but we cannot leave our brother in limbo, that is why we are praying and supporting them all the way for the World Cup ticket and with the support of Governor Obaseki and Deputy Governor Philip Shuaibu and the good people of Akwa Ibom State that will host the match, we are certain that the ticket for Russia 2018 is within reach”.
