Sequel to the report from the Meteorological service predicting heavy rains and severe flooding in 2013, Gov. Seriake Dickson has convened an emergency meeting to prepare the state for the anticipated flood.

The Nigerian Metrological Agency on Feb. 15 in its seasonal Rainfall Prediction said that heavy rainfall was expected in most parts of the country especially the south south region.

The Director-General of NIMET, Dr Anthony Anuforom however added that the predictions were subject to change and subject to unpredictable climate change factors.

According to a statement from Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson, Chief Press Secretary Bayelsa Governor made available to NAN on Monday in Yenogoa the governor invited the post flood management and infrastructure advisory committees to seek solution to the impending incident on Feb. 22, 2013.

Members of both committees are expected to attend the parley with the governor at the executice council chambers by 1 pm.

Bayelsa State Post Flood Management Committee headed by Late General Andrew Azazi (rtd) is now headed by Chief Francis Doukpola and the Infrastructure Advisory Committee chaired by Engineer Charles Dorgu.

The meeting is expected to discuss the recent meteorological report that there will be heavy rains and flooding again this year in parts of the country, including the South-South and how best to mitigate the effects on the government and people of the state.

It will be recalled that the flood incident of 2012 took a negative toll on residents in the state and submerged most settlements resulting to the establishment of three camps to accommodate displaced persons.
