Late Chief Effiong

The funeral rite in respect of late Chief Clement Okon Effiong, has been announced by the family, Nung Ekpo Umoren of Ikot Eto (Formally Ikot Edito) Ibestikpo in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Late Chief Clement Okon Effiong is the father of veteran Nigerian journalist, Dianabasi Effiong, who in a press release, solicited the support of friends and well wishers especially by way of their physical presence at the funeral ceremony.

Chief Okon Effiong was the second son in a family of several children. His father was late Effiong Ekpo Umoren and mother, Mma Mary Akpan Mkpong, of blessed memory, Nung Nkanga, Nung Ette, Ibesikpo.

According to the son, Mr Dianabasi Effiong, the deceased, born on Nov. 25, 1930, died suddenly on July 6, 2017. He will be committed to mother earth in his country home, Ikot Eto, on Dec. 22, 2017 after a vigil night and service of songs on Dec. 21, 2017 by the Lutheran Church of Nigeria.
“The Octogenarian was Speech Writer to late Politician, Nationalist and Ibibio/Minority Rights Crusader, Chief E. O. Eyo (otherwise known as Eyo Uyo), who was also Obong Ikpaisong Ibibio ye Annang.
“My father was also a member and later President of Ibesikpo North Customary Court, traditional ruler, educationist, footballer, referee, disciplinarian, Community leader and orator.
“He retired from the civil service of Cross River State in 1985 having served meritoriously until the mandatory retirement age. He was a pensioner until his demise.”
He is survived by wife, Bessie and two sons, including Mr. Dianabasi Effiong, Zonal Manager, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), South-South, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and several relations.
