Chief Olu Falae

Suspected herdsmen on Sunday, set the farm of a former Nigerian Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Olu Falae, near Akure, the Ondo State capital.

According to a report by Channels Television which quoted the Spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, the police made efforts to put out the fire.

“He, however, said that the police could not immediately confirm whether the act was actually committed by herdsmen as no one has been arrested in connection with it and no one was seen at the scene when policemen got there,” the report said.

Fulani herdsmen had attacked Falae’s farm at least twice in the past, resulting in a public outcry and tensions between the Yorubas and Hausa-Fulanis.

Falae is one of the most respected and reverred leaders of the Afenifere and the Yorubas. Two years ago, he was kidnapped by Fulani herdsmen who were later arrested by the Nigerian police and confessed to the crime.
