As Nigeria’s 2015 general elections gathers momentum, political office holders, and politicians are beginning to position and re- position themselves in order to gain advantage in the next dispensation which kicks- starts in May 2015.

The member representing Abak federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Emmanuel Ekon, is not an exception in the horse-trading and schemes to get re- elected into the green chambers of the National Assembly.

Speaking with news men recently in Uyo, Hon Ekon broke the news that he would seek re- election into the Federal House, because, according to him, he has got the experience that would benefit his constituents.

When asked how his re- election was possible when the position he occupies is traditionally rotational between the 3 LGAs of Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika, Ekon said that he has the political connections to get re/ elected. Hear him: “I have the ears of president Jonathan’s wife, and some top ranking party officials who have repeatedly assured me of the party ticket… The resignation of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur pains some of us who were working closely with him for the peace of the party, but I assure you that our loyalty to Alhaji Tukur remain intact, because he still has important advisory role to play in the party”.

But politicians and pundits alike wonder how a legislator, whose time- out in the National Assembly, has been an abysmal failure, would have the muscle to stage his way back the second time.

According to him, who chose to speak under anonymity: “the Ekon guy has successfully wasted the legislative years of the area… so I caution right thinking people of Abak, Etim Ekpo, and Ika, to distance themselves from his failed agenda…”

Another source who claims to be very close to the federal lawmaker, but also preferred to speak under anonymity said this: “what Emman is doing now is testing the coast, I am aware that he is not interested to contest in 2015…”
Another thing that may stand against Ekon in this contest however is his alleged no love lost relationship with his mentor and Commissioner for Special Duties, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem.

Enoidem was said to have asked Ekon to raise his performance and make a bit of impact on his constituency, only for the lawmaker to rebuff the state exco member and ask him to mind his own business.

It will be recalled that Emmanuel Ekon who is the 4th House of Representatives member for the area since the re-advent of democracy in 1999, had recently beaten a state lawmaker Barr Onofiok Luke during a burial ceremony in Ika, and had attracted widespread condemnation.

” If we needed a boxer, certainly we would have sent Ekon to the Commonwealth Games to fight for his country”, the source added.
