Former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba (Engr.) Gbenga Daniel has described late Professor Adebayo Adedeji as an outstanding economic icon and a distinguished cerebral who served his country, the West African sub-region, the African Continent and the international community meritoriously in various capacities during his remarkable career. The late Adebayo was Executive Secretary to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa from 1975 to 1978, and UN Under-Secretary-General from 1978 until 1991.

In his condolence message on the death of the illustrious Ijebu son who was the Asiwaju and Olotufore of Ijebuland, Otunba Daniel stated that Professor Adedeji’s contributions to the socio-political and economic development of the country and his landmark achievements in a wide range of economic policies and distinctive initiatives for the sustainable development of Africa were noteworthy and well respected in the international communities.
Otunba Daniel also recalled the late economist’s unalloyed support and professional advice as one of the highly revered elders and stakeholders in the State which were very significant and contributed in no small measure to the success story of his administration when he was Governor of Ogun State.
He then joined the good people of Ijebu and other Nigerians in mourning the late Professor Olotufore taking solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilled life and left behind enduring legacies worthy of emulation.
