A prominent youth activist in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Iwaad Emmanuel Mbong has frowned at the misrepresentation of the official insignia of Afigh Iwaad Ekid, a foremost socio-cultural group in the state, by a section of some indigenous print and social media in a bid to defame the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.
In the said story, Mr. Udom Emmanuel was mischievously displayed in an Afigh Iwaad Ekid regalia with an accompanying news story that he was spotted at a shrine being administered with a native oath in the said attire.
But in a swift reaction, Obong Iwaad Mbong the head of the inner caucus of the Afigh who frowned seriously at the allegation, said perpetrators of such false publications are only trying to bring the sanctity of the Afigh as well as the integrity of the people in Eket Federal Constituency into disrepute.
Mbong who is also the Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring, said the political charlatans who are unable to contend with the rising profile of Mr Udom Emmanuel, have now resorted to smearing and cheap blackmail against the proud son of Eket Federal Constituency.
He explained that Mr Udom Emmanuel who was one of those honoured by Afigh Iwaad Ekid at the 2013 edition of the Ekid CUtural Festival, only adorn the regalia just like other honorees at the occasion, and condemned ‘evil blackmailers’ who never see anything good about Governor Godswill Akpabio and his hardworking loyalists, for negatively using a photograph from the cultural event in an attempt to
rub tar on an innocent Akwa Ibom son.
“Mr. Udom Emmanuel is a hardworking technocrat, and His Excellency saw his sterling qualities before appointing him as his lieutenant; and as a son of Eket federal constituency, he has what it takes to effectively hold sway in any position of responsibility that he may be asked by his people to serve”, ObongIwaad Mbong enthused.
He further asserted that, “If the intention of the perpetrators of this ignoble blackmail was to diminish the value of Mr Udom Emmanuel ahead of the 2015 elections, then they should bury their heads in shame for they have failed woefully”.
Our leader, His Excellency Chief Akpabio has already endorsed a direction and we will all queue behind him, irrespective of the quantum lies by cowards who hide under fake identities to engage in their ignoble falsehood using the media.”
The former President General of Afigh Iwaad Ekid, who advised members of the public to disregard the publication as a false and baseless, however warned those behind the dastardly act to desist forthwith or risk being exposed for appropriate legal actions.
He warned media practitioners have been warned against being used by political exterminators as smear tools to brandish deceitful, disparaging and misleading reports against perceived political rivals and innocent members of the public.
