Bayelsa Govt assures on speedy upgrade work on Samson Siasia Stadium

The Bayelsa Government on Thursday assured the ongoing rehabilitation work at the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenagoa will be fast tracked to ensure the state’s teams play their league games at home.
The government also assured the contracting firms involved in the laying of Organic fibre turf on the football pitch and the tartan tracks of the Samson Siasia stadium of the readiness to release funds and ensure the quick completion of the project s.
The Bayelsa Commissioner for Sports, Mr Ebikitin Diongoli,said the issue raised on poor drainage system outside the Stadium complex have been noted and will be addressed.

The State Commissioner of Sports gave the assurances in Yenagoa during a courtesy call on him by the Contractor and Managing Director of MoniMichelle Sports Facilities Construction Company,Mr. Ebi Egbe and the representative of the FIFA approved Organic Fibre Turf company,Limonta Sports.
He said that the administration of Governor Seriake Dickson is focused on completing the project to encourage sports tourism through organization of local and international matches.
Earlier,the Managing Director of the MoniMichelle Sports Facilities Construction Company, who announced FIFA’s endorsement and accreditation of the firms will ensure that the jobs meet the required standards.

He said the Italian based company, Limonta Sports,handling the laying of the organic turf has given certified the needed stone base and internal drainage system in the stadium.
“It makes the job of laying the 99 per cent organic turf easier.” He said.
Egbe announced that the football pitch would be ready within the next 11 weeks because the MoniMichelle as a company works with FIFA approved specification.
“The Bayelsa Governor, Hon.Seriake Dickson is trying with the opening of the state to the international community, we that are in the sports sector must key in and open up sports tourism” he said.
On the poor drainage system outside the stadium,Egbe expressed worry over the poor drainage system and blamed food vendors outside the stadium complex for dumping refuse into the drains constructed by the state government
“The drainages outside the stadium is bad.The State government has done its best and constructed a befitting road network with proper drain but the people have failed to keep it clean.
“If the we don’t get the drainage system outside the stadium right,FIFA May not approve the ongoing renovation being done.

“The drainage is key to the project because we want to woo the FIFA and the international sports community to Bayelsa State.” He said.
The representative of the the Italian based Natural Infill laying company,Limonta Sports company,Mr.Florin Lemonta, commended the state government for its decision to upgrade facilities in the sports complex .
Lemonta however called on the Bayelsa government to expedite action on the clearing of the blocked drainages outside the stadium complex as it may damage the world class organic fibre turf to be laid.
