NGO lauds Eleme Monarch over Intervention in Human Capital Dev., Agric., Education, Healthcare

A US-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has commended a traditional ruler in Rivers for his intervention in human capital development, agriculture, education and healthcare within and outside the state.

The group, known as the Nigerian Initiative for Accelerated Development in Agriculture and Education and Healthcare (NIADAEH), led by Professor Michael Aziken, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), University of Benin, made the remark in an interactive session with the Monarch, Dr Appolus Chu, in his palace in Eleme.

According to Prof.Aziken, NIADAEH is a Nigeria-focused globally driven USA-headquartered social investment initiative.

He said they provided the technical and financial interventions required by individuals, private sector organisations and governments in their efforts to undertake and implement agricultural, educational and healthcare social impact projects.

Aziken said such projects were driven towards the achievement of a viable agriculture and a functional system of good education and quality healthcare.

The Eleme monarch was also honoured with an official invitation to attend the “Nigerian Global Investors Conference on Agriculture, Education and Healthcare 2019”, slated for Benin City from Nov. 19 to Nov. 21.

The letter was presented on behalf of the University of Benin by Prof. Michael Aziken, a Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, of the institution.

Aziken said that the conference, jointly organised by the University of Benin and NIADAEH, would be jointly hosted by the Edo and Delta States government.

He said that Chu was honoured “in recognition of the social impacts of the Monarch’s philanthropic gestures, especially in the areas of agriculture, education and healthcare, which collectively make the focus of the conference”.

He said: “Therefore, in recognition of the philanthropic works of the Appolus Chu Foundation, the King was honoured with the invitation.

“On that note, NIADAEH will partner with the Appolus Chu Foundation in the collective responsibility of driving a viable agriculture sector, as well as a functional system of good education and quality healthcare.”

In his response the Monarch commended the group for appreciating the role of traditional institutions in national

and human capital development.

Chu said: “I love to take care of my people. By so doing, I am also taking care of their future, including my future. I also create

capacity for Nigerians and the people of Niger Delta.

“I am just a vessel in the hands of God. To God be the Glory. I wish that the day I die I will smile while leaving the earth. There is more to live than money and power.

“The invitation is not all about me but the traditional institution Kings must do more at all times to protect the traditional

institution.”
