Cedar Mount Int’l school, Port Harcourt, has won the 2020 Edition of Radio Nigeria Kids football Challenge.
The debutants defeated defending Champions, Great Calvary International 15-14 in a pulsating penalties after they came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 in regulation time.
Gloria Education Centre won the third-place match 1-0 against Archdeacon Brown Education Centre at the tournament.
The football pitch of Treasure 98.5 FM, Port Harcourt, venue of the finals of the 2nd edition of Radio Nigeria Under-12 Football Challenge, was filled to the brim by supporters of the teams and guests.
The finals of this year’s edition lived up to expectation as the two sides, defending Champions, Great Calvary, and Cedar Mount gave good account of themselves.
Captain of Great Calvary and the most valuable player of the tournament, Harmony Ukpabi missed his sides 15th kick to hand Cedar Mount the giant trophy.
Coach of Cedar Mount, Okolosi Akpojaro was full of joy after being handed the victory while Captain of Great Calvary, Harmony, said he
missed his second penalty because his moral was low.
Earlier at the closing ceremony, Zonal Director, Radio Nigeria South South, Jonas Emechebe, who said the competition had come to stay,
appealed to the in-coming Zonal Director to introduce a football academy and take the initiative to the next level.
The Chairman of  Obio/Akpor Local Government Area who chaired the occasion as well as sponsored the price money for the competition, Mr Solomon Eke, commended Radio Nigeria for providing a platform for the young players.
Guests of the occasion included the State Commissioner for information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, who was represented by a Director in the ministry, Mr. Obele Chu.
Also, Brand Ambassador of the competition, Victor Ezeji, and senior management of Radio Nihgeria South South graced the occasion.
