Governors of the five states of South Eastern Nigeria Governors of South-East States have resolved to open both public and private schools for exit classes only (JSS3 and SS3) to enable them affected students prepare for and take their West African School Certificate Examinations (WAEC) tests.

The decision to reopen the schools for exit classes was part of a six-point resolution issued by the governors over the weekend and signed by the Director General of the South-East Governors Forum, Prof. Uchenna Ortuanya.

“The Governors have started the decontamination of all the schools involved including providing hand sanitizers and running water inline with COVID-19 NCDC protocols”, the resolution added.

According to the decisions arrived at by the governors, random sampling of COVID-19 tests shall also be conducted on the teachers and students just as health workers shall be sent to the schools to train the teachers and students on COVID-19 NCDC protocols and to also enforce same.

The governors adviced teachers and the students “to know that COVID-19 is real though not a death sentence but prevention is better than cure” and pleaded with all to obey all NCDC protocols on COVID-19.
