The International Society for Civil Liberties & Rule of Law (InterSociety) has condemned the latest killing of unarmed sympathizers of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) by Nigerian police officers in Enugu on Sunday and dismissed the explanation given by the police authorities as ‘lies’ following the ‘same patterns and trends since August 2015.’

In a terse reaction sent to www.Africanewscircle.com today (Monday) by the head of the civil rights group, Mr Emeka Umeagbalasi, the InterSociety decried the recurring killings of IPOB members by soldiers and police operatives, claiming that the frequency of the massacres points to a remotely co-ordinated action targeted at a section of the country. Umeagabasi said the efforts by the police authorities to explain away the killings was rather flimsy as records prove. His words:

“On interim, what happened in Emene, Enugu yesterday was an unprovoked massacre against defenseless citizens of Igbo extraction. This is clearly the 15th of the Nigerian Security Forces well coordinated massacres targeted at unarmed and defenseless Judeo-Christian citizens of old Eastern Nigeria extraction. Such massacres, started on 30th August 2015 had taken place in Onitsha, Enugu, Yenagoa, Port Harcourt and Asaba on 30th August 2015, Onitsha again on 2nd and 17th Dec 2015, Aba on 29th Jan and 9th Feb 2016, Onitsha, Nkpor and Asaba on 29th and 30th May 2016, Port Harcourt on 20th Jan 2017, Aba, IsialaNgwa, Ogwe and Umuahia on 11th to 14th Sept 2017, Oraifite-Anambra on 2nd Dec 2019 (a case of State terrorism) and Emene-Enugu on Sunday, 23rd August 2020; bringing the total number of such heartless massacres to at least fifteen, involving the killing of now over 500 defenseless Judeo-Christian citizens of old Eastern Nigeria extraction and injuring of over 550 others. The killing of yesterday was yet another mass murder. And the Police and others involved have shamelessly and brainlessly concocted same lies of toddler imagination with same patterns and trends since August 2015”.
