The Rivers State Government Task force for the compliance of COVID-19 protocols inschools today expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance by someschools.
The Task force visited some public and private schools in Obio/Akpor and PortHarcourt Local Government Areas.
The schools visited include, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, JephthahComprehensive Secondary School,  Government Girls Secondary School,Rumuokwuta and Community Secondary School, Rumuepirikom.
Others are Government Comprehensive Secondary, Borokiri,  Enitonna
HighSchool, Borokiri,  Methodist Girls High School, Harbour Road and
StellaMaris College, Port Harcourt.
At the various schools, members of the Taskforce were conducted round
by theprincipals and shown facilities put in place for the observance
of COVID-19 protocols.
Addressing journalists at the end of the monitoring exercise, the
Chairman ofthe Taskforce who is also the Administrator of Greater Port
Harcourt,Ambassador Desmond Akawor said the monitoring is to ensure
that Principals andProprietors of schools implement the COVID-19
protocols as directed by theState Government.
Ambassador Akawor who spoke through the Head of the State Civil
Service, Mr.Rufus Godwins  expressed happiness with the management of
Ignatius AjuruUniversity of Education for the installation of
screening machines and washhand bays at strategic positions in the
school.
Ambassador Akawor also lauded Jephthah Comprehensive Secondary for
theircompliance especially the provision of an Isolation Centre to
address cases ofemergency.
He however observed some lapses in some of the schools visited and
urged themto take proactive steps  by providing more infrared handheld
thermometersand wash hand bays.
Ambassador Akawor also enjoined them to provide hand sanitizers and
maintainsocial distancing in the classrooms.
According to him, the adherence will promote effective teaching and
learning and ensure that the importance Governor Nyesom Wike attaches
to the educationand health of Rivers children is sustained.
Other members of the taskforce on the monitoring exercise include,
theCommissioner for Information, Paulinus Nsirim, Commissioner for
Education,Professor Kaniye Ebeku, Commissioner for Health, Professor
Princewill Chike,Commissioner for Social Welfare, Mrs. Inime Aguma and
Commissioner for Commerceand Industry, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Nwankpa.
