The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has condemned in strong terms, the barbaric killings of innocent Rice farmers in Zabamari of Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.

NAWOJ in a statement in Abuja boldly titled: “UNACCEPTABLE AND SENSELESS KILLINGS OF INNOCENT NIGERIANS, A CALL FOR COLLABORATIVE ACTION”, noted that the “senseless killing of innocent Nigerians in any part of the country is totally unacceptable and MUST be checked and stopped decisively”.

The Women Journalists particularly expressed concerns and sadness over what they described as the “increasing spate of insecurity and constant threat to lives of Nigerians across the country and therefore called for renewed efforts to make the states across Nigeria, particularly the North-east region safe again.
It further noted that the incessant killings have rendered many women to untimely widowhood with its attendant consequences on the future of their children and the society, a development it pointed at as spelling doom for the future.

NAWAOJ while commiserating with the Government and the good people of Borno State over the calous, inhuman, ugly, unfortunate and unacceptable incident, appealed to Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State to give widows of the deceased victims appointments as alternative source of income to alleviate their sufferings.

The Association welcomed the marching order by President Muhammadu Buhari to the military to take the battle to the enclave of the terrorists.

Accordingly, the group appealed to Nigeria’s military and other security agencies to as a matter of national interest and concerns, step up their fight against terrorists and bandits in the country.
The NAWAOJ statement signed by its National President, Ladi Bala and Secretary, Helen Udofa said, the battle must be won for Nigerians and for a better Nigeria.
