The Rivers State arm of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has taken a swipe on the state governor, Nyesom Wike for doling out a whooping donation of N500 million to Sokoto State to help with rebuilding a burnt market in the state.

In strong reaction in which the APC took a swipe on the governor for the donation, the Rivers State spokesman of party, Chief Ogbenna Nwuke described the decision to make the donation as utterly irrational.

Below, is the text of Nwuke’s reaction:

“We do not think that the decision to dole out the some of N500m was rational. The economic outlook for the State and country hasn’t been promising. The Governor who has, dragged the State into serious debt through excessive borrowing; who knows that times like this calls for caution should have thought of the people that he leads.

“Facilities owned by the State are in shambles. Take the State Secretariat for example, the complex under his watch has depreciated. Trees are growing on the walls of some of the buildings. Water supply in the complex has been cut. When seen against the backdrop of the pandemic, you can imagine the danger workers face because of poor hygienic conditions.

“They have no light and no lifts to take them up the high rise structures at the Secretariat yet we are doling out N500 million to Sokoto State.
Wike is building a hostel at the Law School in Yenagoa while hostels at the School of Nursing deroofed by a storm has remained unattended to.

“Pensioners who have given their best to the State are being owed pension and gratuities. Most have died, others are unable to educate and feed their children. Every time these retired citizens are on the streets protesting their nonpayment but the Wike administration has refused to do something about their plight.
In bid to massage his own ego and pursue his political ambition, the Governor would rather donate handsomely to PDP states, sponsor all kinds of events while his people suffer.
The Governor should point at a new investment that is generating revenue and creating jobs that he has put in place. There is none but our man is the talk of town. . This Governor has constructed roads in Benue through borrowed funds. Now he has dashed away N500 million in Sokoto.

“We know that he is doing this because of his political ambition. The posters which appeared everywhere have revealed him.
The people are angry and all over the State people are condemning the donation.
Rivers money belongs to Rivers people. It does not belong to Wike.

“The Governor did not seek the approval of the State House of Assembly and it is doubtful that he informed the State Executive Council before he made the commitment.
We believe that the time has come to hold Wike accountable. For so long he has acted as an Emperor. We think this nonsense must stop. Rivers people must speak truth to power.
Wike should tell the Rivers people under what subhead of the 2021 budget he got the money to splash on Sokoto State.

“Governor Wike in our view has committed an impeachable offence and should be impeached.
Our State is losing so much because of the lack of transparency of his government. The State did not benefit from a World Bank facility recently because of this.
Wike’s administration has become a curse. It is led by someone who does not believe in due process.
