The Opu-Nembe Council of Chiefs in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa has condemned the activities of some errant youths who disrupted a Federal Government road project in the area.

The chiefs made the condemnation in a statement on Thursday signed by the Chairman, Opu-Nembe Council of Chiefs, Oriango Oruwari and the Secretary of council, Chief Ivory Fikoru.

They said the youths had prevented the contractors from continuing with the construction of the road connecting Opume-Okoroba-Agrisaba and Ikensi group of communities.

They condemned the criminal act in its entirety and strongly cautioned the youth against taking laws into their hands to frustrate the project.

“A constituency project such as this is very rare, not only in terms of the vision behind it, but also the tough courage, determination, passion and absolute patriotism on the part of the Senator representing Bayelsa East, Senator Degi Eremienyo, who attracted the project.

“The Senator brought this project not only for the socio-economic wellbeing of the people of the area but by extension the entire Bayelsa State.” The Chiefs stated.

The chiefs, therefore, advised guardians and parents to those youths to caution and restrain them from further doing anything that would hamper the smooth execution of the Federal Government project.

They also advised youths with genuine grievances to channel them to the chiefs council or report to the relevant law enforcement agencies for fair hearing and peaceful resolution.

“Consequently, having opened the doors to listen to the aggrieved parties, any individual or group of individuals who fails to utilise this opportunity and take further steps to frustrate this project will have themselves to blame.

“The council will have no further option but to invoke whatever legitimate measures to ensure that the project is not only protected but smoothly executed to its finishing point.” the statement read in part.
