A don, Prof. Prince Nwakanma, has stressed the need for Federal Government to be more holistic in her approach in ensure that the issue of alleged injustice being meted to the people of South South/South East region of the country is properly addressed.

Nwakanma, who made the remark in an interview observed with dismay the Federal government’s show of insensitivity towards the plight of the affected people.

“Honestly, I stand to be corrected that the people of South South/South East have not gotten a fair deal from President Mohammadu Buhari led Federal Government administration particularly the Igbos who are apparently seems to have been marginalized in the scheme of things.

“For me, it is time, the high level of injustice and inadequacies being demonstrated by the President Buhari-led Federal Government on Igbos need to be looked into with a view to address them properly, as all of us are stakeholders in this country.

“Regrettably, the people of South South/East have been denied better infrastructure namely, good roads, federal appointments, sitting of projects etc. and yet they still remain the major actors who are contributing positively to the growth of the country”, he remarked.

When asked on his opinion concerning the possibility of an Igbo man becoming the President of Nigeria come 2023, the well-known erudite scholar held the view that it was even overdue, considering the fact that the seat of President has actually gone to various sections of the North without coming down to the South South/East.

“Infact, if things are to be done properly or on merit in      Nigeria, there is no cogent reason why an Igbo man from South South/East should not have been accorded the chance to become President of Nigeria, come 2023.

“No doubt, an Igbo man has the ability and intellectual capacity to govern this country as President, except that the trend of injustice being displayed by the federal government appears to be the biggest challenge, which has eaten deep into the fabric of the nation.

He, therefore, prayed that the Igbos, as a matter of act, should re-examine themselves better with a view to knowing whether lack of unity has been their biggest  threat to their high aspiration of occupying the number one seat in the country as being reported in many quarters.

“Well, if the problem of Igbos has to do with lack of unity, I think it behooves on them to sit back and forge a consensus on the best way to come out with a better solution,” Nwakanma stated.
