A Pan Niger Delta sociocultural and political pressure group , the Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in Niger Delta MOSIEND, has condemned what it descibed as the senseless and unprovoked attacks on officers of the Nigerian Police Force at their various duty posts in Rivers State on Friday, May 7, 2021.
MOSIEND in a release signed by Alhaji Abubakar Amaigo Brown its National Director Mobilization and Comrade George Okitikpi, the
Chief Security Officer to MOSIEND President, further described the incident as unfortunate and barbaric stressing that perpetrators of the heinous act must be fished out and made to pay for their crimes within the ambits of the law.
Below, is the text of the release:
“As a group we are calling on indigenes, residents and groups in Rivers State to speak up against this ugly development which has the potency of returning the State to the dark days of insecurity and violence, a situation that would further stifle socio-economic progress of the State. It is most unfortunate that personnel who are out to protect lives and property are attacked and killed in such a gruesome manner without recourse to the fact that the slain officers are mostly breadwinners of their respective families, and above all human beings whose lives are sacred before God and man. What’s their crime? are they not Nigerians? This is a worrisome development and we urge all Rivers sons and daughters, Nigerians and indeed foreigners residing in the State to be on the alert and vigilant at all times to report strange and suspicious movements around their environment and neighborhood to the nearest security agents for prompt action. Security is everyone’s responsibility. The repeated attacks on security agents in the State is a clear indication that some hoodlums have turned themselves to agents of darkness and enemies of the progress, whose mission is to wreck havoc in the State simply to score a cheap political point, and Rivers people must rise up to resist these agents of destruction. The Nigerian Police and sister security agencies should be alive to their responsibilities through effective monitoring and supervision of command and control, while still encouraging healthy citizens engagement for sound information and intelligence gathering.”
“Governor Nyesom Wike, who is the Chief security officer of the State is expected to at this time, rise up to the occasion and protect the State from both internal and external attacks. We expect the Governor to step up his game in the area of security by coming up with strigent measures capable of dousing tension and forstalling further attacks on police formations and its personel in the State. Governor Wike should strengthen his cooperation with the various security agencies in the State to stem the tide of violence before it snowballs into a full blown crisis. MOSIEND also use this opportunity to commiserate with the families of the victims, the Nigerian Police Force and Rivers people over the recent tragic incidents, hoping that all hands would be on deck to ensure that the State is protected against the evil plot of those who have constituted themselves as anti-democratic and development forces.
