Cote d’Ivoire: Rivers Angels FC Motivated For Gold Medal In CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifier–Head Coach

Rivers Angels FC of Port Harcourt is being motivated to win the gold medal in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifier in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
Edwin Okon, Head Coach of the Port Harcourt based team made this known on Saturday in an interview with sportswriters in Abidjan.
Okon said that winning a gold medal would be the best result for the Nigeria’s representative at the Total Energies CAF Women’s Champions League.
He disclosed that Rivers Angels first game against Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana will be a big match, adding that their opponent would succumb to pressure.
“Ghana has never beaten Nigeria, Ghana always succumbs to Nigeria’s pressure, and that is what is going to happen; it’s a big match and good one for us.
“Our target is to get the gold medal which means automatic qualification for us, and our highest motivation is the one goal, N1m promised made to us.
“This kind of motivation is very high and the players know this, and they are prepared to get the reward; the die is cast and to us, it is a must win match,” he said.
Okon said: “We have been talking to among ourselves and the players know what is at stake and what is expected from all of them, so we are not leaving anything unturned.
“But we are not under pressure, we are used to the system, we see ourselves as the team that is representing the country
“All of us are happy and not under any pressure, and I promise we are going to make ourselves proud, the owners of the team and the entire Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“So, be assured that we are not going to let neither the state nor the country down; we are champions anytime, anywhere, and making it to this stage was not an easy task.
“We assure our teeming fans, sponsors, the people of Rivers and Nigeria that we are not going to disappoint them,” he said.
Also, Yusuf Basigi, Head Coach of Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana said that the two teams were the giants of Africa in women football.
Basigi stated that he had respect for Rivers Angels but his team was in Cote D’Ivoire to win and well prepared against the Port Harcourt bases team.
“The two teams are good friends but only rivals on the field because of superiority and bragging rights that we are always looking for.
“A win will be the best result for me against Rivers Angels but I will not be surprised if meet at the finals again,” he said.
