The group’s President, Sir Precious Elekima, made this known on Friday on the sideline of the recent resolution by the National Assembly on Nigerian electoral act.

According to Elekima, the National Assembly’s resolution will usher in the long expected electoral reforms and restore confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Recall that members of the Senate made a series of adjustments to the Electoral Act at the plenary in the National Assembly in Abuja, following a motion moved by the Senate Leader, Sen. Yahaya Abdullahi for the re-committal of some clauses of the Electoral Act No. 6, 2010 (Repeal & Re-enactment) Bill, 2021 (SB. 122) to the Committee of the Whole chaired Sen. Ahmad Lawan, the Senate President.

They resolved that, “subject to section 63 of the Bill, voting at an election and transmission of results under this Bill shall be in accordance with the procedure determined by the commission’’.

According to the resolution, the Presiding officer shall transfer the results, including total number of accredited voters and the results of the ballot in a manner as prescribed by the Commission (INEC).

Other resolutions included: “A political party seeking to nominate candidates for elections under this Bill shall hold direct primaries for aspirants to all elective positions, which shall be monitored by the Commission’’.

Elekima said: “I, on behalf of the people’s Life improvement foundation heartily thank the National Assembly , Governor’s, Religious Leaders,  Nigerians, friends of Nigeria, on the Journey of giving the power to the people of Nigeria.

“Such power is for them to consent to who shall rule them as representatives of the people from the federal to the Local level.

“For nearly four years our organisation saddled itself with the auduos task of ensuring that Nigerians truly understand the reason why our way of elections must change and only the people must elect their political leadership.

“Now, that the law has  been amended this week by God using great men and women of the National Assembly, Nigeria is on the threshold of economic, and political recovery that will guarantee freedom, prosperity and peace to all.’’

He said that the group also appreciated everyone that contributed to the successful engagement of the legislative and executive branch prior the amendment.

“No one person could have been able to do it alone. While we await the assent of Mr President, we congratulate the Legislative branch for a job well done.

“ And we also thank President Muhammadu Buhari in advance in the expectation for his signing into law this landmark amendment to the electoral act.

“Virtue is the ingredient of good governance. We need good men and women to build a better society,’’ Elekima stated.
