Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson on Sunday commissioned the multi million naira Deputy Governor’s lodge, disclosing that it was part of his administration’s Restoration Agenda aimed at giving people a sense of belonging.

Describing his Deputy, Rtd Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah as an active participant in his administration, the Governor said the project was among the numerous developmental projects embarked upon by the present administration.

The office of the Deputy Governor, according to Hon. Dickson is enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and should be treated with utmost respect, especially in the designation of functions.

He added that the project was embarked upon to provide a befitting residential accommodation in view of the importance attached to the office of the Deputy Governor as one which offers invaluable support to the office of the Governor.

Reaffirming the place of his Deputy Governor as a dependable ally, the Governor hinted that construction work is in progress for a state-of-the-art office accommodation for the Governor and Deputy as well as their key aides.

He expressed delight over the completion of the project, noting that it is one of several projects scattered across the state.

Governor Dickson explained that the Deputy Governor’s Lodge is being commissioned ahead of other projects in view of the importance attached to the office and the urgent need to have a place of abode his second in command.

According to him, other projects would be commissioned soon across the State to fast track infrastructural development.

Hon. Dickson expressed optimism that the edifice, which symbolizes unity between the office of the Governor and that of the Deputy, would further cement the cordial relationship existing between them.

In his response, the Deputy Governor, Retired Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah described the project as part of the restoration government’s policy to build institutions to promote good governance.

According to the Deputy Governor, the idea of providing such a residential accommodation is visionary and commendable and a clear pointer to the fact that the State is making good progress.

Earlier in his introductory remarks, the Architect who provided the architectural design of the Lodge, Architect Ere Efeke said the project, which was started in December last year is equipped with a boys’ quarters.

The Governor, accompanied by the Deputy and his wife Mrs. Silverline John Jonah, later cut the tape and unveiled a plaque to formally commission the Lodge before undertaking a guarded tour of the facility.
