Team University of Port Harcourt (Uniport) has continued to dominate on the medals table as the 26th Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) is gradually draws to an end at the University of Lagos (Unilag).

Team Uniport on Saturday sits comfortably on the summit of the medals table with unassailable lead with 99 medals, including 50 gold 23 silver and 26 bronze medals.

Team Uniport is the defending champions having won the 25th edition of the games in 2017 with 70 medals.

The team’s strength lies in the individual sports where they dominated the podium finish in Swimming with an astonishing 20 gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals.

Team Uniport are also dominant in Tennis, combat sports such as Judo, Karate Taekwondo and athletics.

Team Unilag, host of the 26th edition, are in the second position with 71 medals comprising 25 gold, 27 silver and 19 bronze medals.

Also, Team Nile University, Abuja, the surprise team of NUGA 2022, occupies the third space of 10-day all-university games with 38 medals, including 15 gold, 10 silver and 13 bronze medals.

Team Nile University Abuja is also dominant in swimming event with 11 gold, eight silver and 11 bronze medals.

The University of Ilorin occupies the fourth position on the table with 24 medals (six gold, eight silver and three bronze), followed by another surprise entrant, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, in the fifth position with 17 medals (six gold, eight silver and three bronze).

Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife sits sixth on the medals table after harnessing six gold, two silver and 14 bronze medals, to secure a total of 22 medals.

The University of Benin emerged seventh with four gold, three silver and five bronze to total 22 medals.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure, occupies the eight position on the table with13 medals (four gold, two silver and seven bronze medals), while the University of Nigeria, Nsukka won four gold, one silver and four bronze (nine medals) to occupy the ninth position.

The 10th placed team is the University of Uyo, with three gold, three silver and nine bronze (15 medals) at the event.

The 2022 NUGA, featured 73 universities across Nigeria in 17 sporting activities with more than 10,000 contingents and volunteers hosted by the Unilag.
