A leading presidential candidate of Nigeria’s main opposition party, Mr Peter Obi has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The populist Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, was until his surprise resignation, one of the 15 aspirants vying for the presidential ticket of the PDP.

The candidate’s resignation was contained in a letter dated Tuesday, May 24 and submitted to the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, today, Wednesday, May 25.

Obi who did not give much details as to why he resigned his membership of the PDP and quit contesting under the party’s platform, is said by sources to likely run under the platform of a yet-to-be identified political party whose major players have offered to have him fly its flag in the 2023 election.
