The Cross River council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has elected new members of the executive to run the affair of the union for the next three years.

The election which took placed on Saturday in Calabar, was supervised by Messrs Opaka Dokubo and John Angese, Zone F Vice President and Secretary respectively.

The State Correspondent of the Nation, Mr Nsa Gill won the Chairmanship position with 76 votes while his opponent, Mr Okar Ibor of the state owned Nigerian Chronicle Newspaper scored 50 votes.

Solomon Azu, the Group News Editor of the Nigerian Chronicle also emerged Secretary with 64 votes against Jude Okoro of the Sun who scored 59 votes.

Similarly, Archibong Bassey of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) defeated Veronica Imaji of Information Chapel to emerge the Financial Secretary of the union.

Others who went into the race unopposed included the Vice Chairman, Florence Kanu; Treasurer, Achiane Adams; and Assistant Secretary, Kingsley Agim.

Although 148 delegates were cleared for the election, 128 delegates participated.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman of Council, Nsa Gill, assured that he would to move the union forward, adding that the welfare of members would also be a priority.

He also assured of a peaceful reign, harmony and transparency in handling the affairs of of State Council of the union.
