The convoy of the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha was today involved in an car accident along the Owerri- Orlu expressway. According to witnesses the accident occurred when a private vehicle ran into the car conveying the Governor to Owerri, the state capital.
While an unconfirmed report noted that the Governor was flown abroad through the Port Harcourt International airport soon after the accident for medical attention, another maintained that the governor received medical treatment at the Owerri General Hospital.
The crash has thrown up positions bordering on whether the incident was just an accident or a suicide attempt on the life of the governor who was been embroiled in a power struggle with his deputy, Sir Jude Agbaso leading to Agbaso’s recent impeachment. Since the impeachment of his former deputy, the governor has come under the searchlight of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, a development seen in many quarters as vendetta from the embittered former deputy governor.
Governor Okorocha was part of leading politicians that coalesced to float the newly formed All Progressives Congress (CAN).
